remember sitting on my porch swing as a girl in Maxton, North Carolina, lost in the pages of a book.
The neighborhood kids would ride by on their bikes and ask, “Are you on punishment?”
I’d laugh.
“No. I’m reading.”
They couldn’t understand that books weren’t a punishment. They were my refuge. My adventure. My hope. They gave me places to go when I couldn’t leave, people to meet when I felt alone, and dreams that reached far beyond the front porch of my childhood home.
Reading became more than a hobby. It became a lifeline. No words can really describe how books helped to save me.
Years later, that little girl grew up to become a literacy teacher, a professor, and a publisher.
That’s why Eli and I built Monarch Educational Services.
We believe books matter because people matter. Every story we publish is chosen with the hope that it might encourage a reader, strengthen a family, spark a dream, or simply provide a safe place to land for a little while.
Because sometimes a book is more than a book.
